Growing Lessons

Hope your day is shaping up to be a rather nice one!  It’s hotter than usual here in the mid part of the country, as we are going on our 11th day of over 100 degree temps.  For some of you from the south, this is nothing new, for here it is…well…different.  And we have had no rain, at least where I am, for weeks.  Again, unusual.  BUT, the interesting thing is that as I was watering my plants this morning, I noticed something encouraging…New growth on all of my pepper plants!  Also, my tomato plants that I planted REALLY late are actually taking hold and growing nicely.  If I can keep them alive in this heat, they will grow and produce in the fall…so, again, nice!  My garden area does not get the proper sun, but I am thinking since the sun is so much hotter, that might not be such a bad thing!

Gardening, even in small ways, is such a learning opportunity!  And, from today, the lesson for my journey is this, even in the face of adversity, we can grow.  Even in the face of what appears to be a lull in our lives, we can still move forward.  The only thing holding us back is ourselves.  Truly, if the plants, in the face of such drought conditions, can continue to grow and even add new growth, then we, as brothers and sisters to the plants, can do this too!  (All life is all related, you know!)

It’s easy for me to imagine that the plants don’t over think things like we do.  It’s easy for me to see that, while things are rough for them now, they just say, “Yep it’s hot, but that won’t stop me from doing what I was put on this earth to do…grow!”  And we can learn from that!  Did we wake up this morning?  Yep!  SO, that gives us another day to work towards our goal…Yesterday is in the past.  Keep the lesson from yesterday’s decisions and live in the now, knowing you can change your way of thinking, the things you are doing and the influence with which you let others influence your life.  Your decisions can start over every single day, and if need be, find a different path that offers you different results, every day…

Don’t be a slave to old thoughts, past actions or past decisions.  Challenges are not obstacles unless you allow them to be… Wake up in the morning with a renewed sense of awareness…The knowledge that you CAN change your mind, do things differently and interact with life on this planet in different ways.  You are the key to YOUR future…If you have given up that power over you to someone else, well, take it back!  You truly are the one you’ve been waiting for and your world will open up for you when you embrace yourself.  So, what are you waiting for!?!

Blessings for your day, and weekend, next week, and always!  Much love and light to you and your family…May the blessings of Our Creator rain down on you until you have had your fill, and may it all happen for you again on every tomorrow!

Peace be with you

Look, Listen, Learn

Everyone and everything has merit.  Just because you don’t get it or understand it, doesn’t mean there isn’t a message or lesson to be learned.  Even when things seem bleak there is always some knowledge that can be acquired, especially if you just take a few minutes to look for it.

Some people seem to be a waste of our time, but, have you ever truly wondered what their journey has brought them?  The life lessons of someone else could save you a whole lot of trouble!  Older people have experience on their side, while younger people have a fresh perspective.  Plus, you cannot know what insights someone else has just by looking at them.   BUT, people also perceive things differently, so someone else’s experience might not match yours.  And that is a lesson, as well!

The these “teachings” might have to do with joy, happiness, peace or patience.  It could be humility or compassion.  It could be contentment or mercy…or, it could be acceptance and love.  The truth is, you will never know if you aren’t open to it.  There’s always something to be learned.

And…sometimes YOU are someone else’s lesson…life’s not all about you…there are others sharing our planet, others having similar experiences and others linked to our journey.

The bottom line is, be open to the possibilities to learn something in everything you do, also remembering, you may be the chosen one to “teach” someone else…and even through all of that, you might be surprised what you learn!

My New Year’s Wish

May our new year be filled with the deep kind of joy that we can only get when we realize that we are loved beyond measure and that Our Divine Creator is with us always…and that we are joined together in spirit.  We are all connected and so should be sending love to all. When one of us does well, all of us benefit, even if it is just on the spiritual level, which is, after all, the best level!

May you find comfort in knowing that you are a blessing to Our Creator. May the blessings of Our Divine clothe you always, prop you up when needed and carry you through your journey…You are Your Creator’s child, so bask in that realization. Let the new year begin, bringing with it all the new and exciting adventures for the next chapters in our journey…Peace, joy, love and happiness to you all.

Freedom to Be

There is much going on in this world here today.
And many are hoping it just passes them by.
Governments and people disrespecting each other,
and everyone suppressing their urges to try.

True freedom’s a gift, not given by man,
yet some feel the need to control and demand.
We are brothers and sisters, here on this planet
and this journey of ours beckons us to understand.

One by one we CAN accept our differences
and respect that which makes us unique.
Today we must shed our hatred and fear,
knowing these differences make our world tick.

We are one human race, what affects you affects me,
and so on it goes, till we stop hurting each other.
One thing of great note, that we must recognize,
No one can be free while suppressing another.

Equal…

You are, and have always been, a blessing to me.
Even though you do not see me.
Even though you have no respect for me.
Even though I am taught to blindly follow you
and to be submissive to you…

I have, however, begun to resent feeling unimportant.
Tired of feeling trapped, suppressed, used,
considered a servant, not a partner or equal.
And now, others like me are beginning
to resent others like you.

Why do my gifts not matter?
I can see your value, why can’t you see mine?
My early kind was considered property,
No doubt, at some point, yours was too.
So when do we move past that?

When does the right of all
outweigh the right of only half…
in a world where no growth can be had,
without both parts?

Life would be so much easier if we all learned
to respect and embrace our differences, gifts, insights
and used them for the greater good…
Learning it takes all the difference to make up the whole…
What blessings could be had from that?

Taking Cues From Mother Nature

A cool front moved through here between Saturday and yesterday, leaving us with temperatures 20 to 25 degrees cooler for the past two days than most of last week.  As Summer fades into Autumn, the night breeze has a slight chill, as does the daytime breeze, and for some reason, overnight the air seems to be more crisp and clean.  It is a beautiful day here today, and even the sunshine seems somehow prettier.  As things have died out over the Summer heat, the plants that managed to withstand the brutal heat seem to be even brighter.

Our part of the earth is preparing to hibernate, as Autumn will surely give way to Winter.  Our area will be at rest, rejuvenating for the next phase, Spring…and the cycle will repeat…waking, living, resting & sleeping, waking, living, resting & sleeping…on and on it goes.

We tend to push ourselves to the breaking point every single day.  Most of us don’t have too much trouble with the waking part of our day, but we try to cram so much “stuff” into it that we ignore one of the most important thing we can do for ourselves.  Rest & sleeping…

If we pay attention to nature, we can get clues.  Take for instance the perennials.  They sprout forth their life, grow, start to wither and die, only to repeat the cycle, sometimes even bigger and better over the following years.  I’d like to use, as examples, two particular plants; Crape Myrtles and Pampas Grass.

When I lived in Texas, everyone grew Crape Myrtles.  One particular fellow had a fence lined with Crape Myrtles.  I passed his place everyday on my way to work.  Before I knew much about them (I still don’t know too much!), at the beginning of Autumn, he cut every single one of them to the ground.  I thought to myself, “What the heck are you doing, mister?” because they were beautiful…smaller, but beautiful.  The next Spring, after resting the Autumn and Winter, they came back with a vengeance!  They grew bigger and more full, and even more beautiful…that next Fall, he did the same thing…Cut them to the ground!  Yet, in the Spring, they came back and grew even bigger and more lovely…

My parent’s driveway is lined with Pampas Grass.  It is a beautiful sight when they are covered in full plumes.  People here, in the Midwest, grow them, as well.  What they do here, though, in Autumn, is cut them down and burn them off…If you know nothing about it, it sounds crazy, right?  Yet the following year, after the Autumn and Winter rest, they come back fuller and more beautiful.

The same goes for deciduous trees, as well…Ever seen a Maple Tree go through it’s cycle?  Another lovely tree with a similar cycle is the popular Bradford Pear.  Beautiful life emerges in the final throws of Winter and the onset of Spring as the trees flower.  Pretty leaves emerge (most are green, but there are other colors as well.  Japanese Maples are famous for their red or red lined leaves and are very popular ornamental trees!) and by Summer, they are covered with leaves.  In Autumn, as the trees wind down for rest, the leaves put on a SPECTACULAR show as they change color from green to yellow to orange and to red (sometimes having all four colors on one leaf!), as the tree gets ready to shed its leaves for the upcoming hybernation. It is an awesome show!

I have known many people who leave the trees to their own devices, once they are established, and they do alright.  I have also known others to nurture and care for their trees, and boy do they flourish!

There are a couple of things we can learn from Mother Nature…

First, we NEED our rest and relaxation to rejuvenate.  Sure, we can go and go and go all day long, deep into the night, crash onto our beds, get a few hours of sleep, get up the next day and do it all again, but that pace takes a toll on our body, and on our psyche.  Our bodies need proper rest, and nourishment if we plan to live long lives.  Lack of sleep leads to stress, confusion and moodiness.  Stress is one of the main sources for dis-ease and bodily malfunction in otherwise healthy adults.  Lack of sleep causes us to not “think” to our fullest capacity, causing us confusion, which breeds frustration, and then anger.  These are preventable things, if we nourish ourselves through proper rest and diet.

Second, Mother Nature can also show us the beauty of life and dignity in death.  As both the Crape Myrtle and the Pampas Grass and deciduous tree examples show us, we can live our lives in beauty and splendor, and at the end, if we do not fear our life or death, we can transition into our next great adventure, and be even more splendid at that.  Many religions teach us about life after death, reincarnation, etc.  So, as you watch Nature, you can see what happens after it appears to “die.”  The next “life” is so much bigger and more beautiful…and on it goes…

Take good care of yourself, respect yourself and don’t be afraid of what is to come.  Take time to “rest.”  There is nothing wrong with simply being still for a while!  Sure, you can take a vacation every year, but what about a little rest every day?  Take a short walk, relax in a warm bath, read, listen to music, take up a hobby, or yoga.  Get proper rest, and then be SURE to get proper sleep!   The things to promote rest do not have to take up much of your time, but the benefits of rest and sleep are unending!  I challenge each of you to take on your life, but treat it with respect.  Grow, live and nurture your life.   And, try treating every living thing with the same “respect for life” and see what you cultivate in your own!  Many Blessings!

Blessings!

Divine Heritage

We are ALL children of Divine Majesty…making us “royal heirs” to a mighty kingdom.  And it does not matter to WHAT religion you adhere, the truth is simple…You are Divine…Do not let someone coax you into giving up your precious birthright.

With such “power” also comes massive, but simple, responsibility…to make sure that every single one of our sisters and brothers achieves their own truth…their expression of Our Divine Parentage.  As vessels of the attributes of Blessed Creation, love should imbue every cell in our body as our very being illuminates the world.  Is it not true that The Supreme truly embodies love and light?

Let nothing hold you back from pursuing your sacred heritage.  May your Soul shine forth today as the essence of who you are radiates outward, inspiring our noble siblings to embrace their greatness.

Spiritual Appetite…

We’ve all heard the saying, “You are what you eat” (and some us of reflect that!!!), but have we ever considered that with regards to our spirituality?  What if we modified it to “You are what you pray?”

Do you pray for the good of the person for whom you are praying, or do you pray selfishly?  Do you think positive thoughts for people (another form of prayer!), or are your thoughts self-serving?  Once, one of my friends admitted she was praying against what I wanted because she did not want me to move forward to the next phase of my life…She wanted me to stay where I was…How do you think Karma affected that situation?  I did get my desire to move forward, by the way!

AND…if you will pray/send thoughts like this for a friend, how, spiritually, are you treating those you consider your enemy?  What does the Bible have to say about that???  Matthew 5:44 says, “…love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those insulting you and persecuting you…” and why?  Because what reward is there if you love only those who love you…How can you grow, if you do what is “safe?”  The bible tells us that, too…it also says Our Creator sends both sun and rain to the good and evil…but for us to be perfect, as Our Creator in heaven is perfect.

We’ve talked about praying and meditating so much that it becomes SO routine that your subconscious actually thinks positive thoughts on its own…but, likewise, we can “train” our subconscious to think negatively, as well…And that will come back to bite you if you are not careful…Remember Karma…what goes around comes around???

I challenge you, today, to start a campaign for the positive…if you catch yourself thinking negatively about someone, or even something, find something positive to think for the situation, no matter how small…before you no it, all your thoughts will be positive and your Spiritual Appetite will be more than satisfied!

Magnificent, Instead!

What cares do I have, that eat up my days,
drive me insane with worry and pain.
How did I get them, from where did they come?
I search deep down, to the pit of my soul,
and find their not there, so is my search done?

Then a very small voice, so still and alive,
beckons me listen, so I’m not deprived.
“Your worry’s, your problems” it says with such force,
“Are troubling for sure, but derive from mankind…
I would not wish them for you, not ever, of course.”

“You are My Dear Child, and only the best,
is what you deserve, yet time you do waste,
searching for things which hold no meaning for you,
wondering blindly, stumbling round in the dark.
Why do you do that?  Better get on the move!”

“You have lots to accomplish, things to get done.
Things to experience, get out, have some fun!
You’re truly Divine, accept it, move ahead!
Shed the thick coat of troubles you’ve wrapped round yourself.
Embrace who you are, be magnificent, instead!”

Unwritten…

Someone said start over
any time, anywhere
and I’ve taken it to heart,
my own cross to bear,
But the past keeps bleeding
over into the future.
Now if I could stop that,
Might get where I want to.

Until one day I realize,
as I start once again,
I am stronger than this,
and my soul starts to mend.
The clearing I see,
not too far ahead,
is beautifully bright,
not filled with dread!

The fear that I hold
in the palm of my hand
is unrealized,
drifting away like the sand
on a beach with the water,
chasing forward and back
I find that courage
isn’t something I lack.

My future, I find
is steady and sure,
if I keep my head clear
and keep my thoughts pure.
So I can move forward
knowing I can still win
my future’s unknown,
it’s truly unwritten!
