Rewiring for Positivity…

Our journey ahead is, or can be, FULL of amazing people and adventures.  AMAZING!  For some, it starts that way, it’s that way through the middle and can be that way at the end.  Many, though, they never see it that way.  They see their entire journey as a struggle; a burden.  No doubt, at times, it can be.  Still, some people thrive on chaos…drama…trouble.  They create it, take no responsibility for it and try to foist it off on others.  Truly, too, some of us have been dealt some nasty cards.  There is no denying that.  I’ve seen it.  It’s sad to it’s core.  My dad used to say, “No matter what happens in your life, there is always someone who has it worse than you,” and, for the majority of us, he’s right.

Even for those of us who don’t have it that bad, we can find ourselves caught in a downward spiral.  Maybe it was through no fault of our own, or maybe it was a series of choices we made.  Our choices can center around jobs, money, friends, significant others, strangers, where we live, how we entertain ourselves, politics, religion, well being…any number of things.  These choices can give way to thoughts of unhappiness, and pretty soon, we find ourselves drowning in disturbing thoughts about our life choices.

There are outside forces that we must reckon with.  Advertising agencies make good money making us imagine we can’t possibly be happy with the choice we’ve made.  We NEED a new car, house, appliance, clothes, shoes, furniture, next new book, game, game console, whatever.  They shape our thoughts in ways we don’t even realize…we aren’t religious enough, we aren’t attractive enough, we are too tall, too short, too fat, too thin, too dark complected, too pale, our hair is too curly, too straight, too light, too dark…it goes on and on.

Then, there’s religion, the news media and the government…yes, even they help shape our choices and thoughts.  The religion we choose shapes our views on other religions, death, life (ours and others), life issues, our place in society, who’s going to Hell (EVEN though Our Creator told us NOT to judge!!!). Depending on who’s in office and which party is in control of Congress, our media and government try to control how we think about gay rights, gun issues, reproductive issues, personal rights, personal responsibilities, what we eat, war, religion, freedom as a whole, government and religion…All of this, in turn, helps shape a set of societal norms that squelch individuality in both thought and creativity.

The truth is, with all the information coming at us from every angle, we’ve become lazy about thinking for ourselves.  Even our friends help shape our thought process, and thus our choices…We are bombarded from every angle.  So…what can we do?  Is there, or can there be, any way out?  Is there a way to reshape our thoughts so that we can fix our present, overcome our past and have a better future?  Maybe their is.  Maybe we can relearn to think for ourselves.

We need to learn to do is question everything.  Even those with good intentions can make us rethink our choices.  Weigh everything you are told.  Especially if it’s from ads, the media or the government…and maybe even a few friends…research out important information.  Once you’ve done that, you might just find loads of other info about the very subject…then, compare what you’ve found with what you already thought you knew.  You might come to different conclusions!

Realize that if something is too good to be true, it usually is.  Likewise, if something seems too bad to be true…it usually is.

Understand that just because something is right for someone else, it might not be right for you.  The world is not black and white…there are MANY shades of grey…as well as other colors…use them wisely.

Follow your gut, for truly, your gut is usually right.  If it seems wrong, it probably is…whether it’s an opinion about yourself or someone else.

Get plenty of rest…when you are tired, your judgment is cloudy…

Likewise, eat healthy food…

Be patient…yes…be patient…

Look back on the bad things, and the good, and appreciate the fact that you lived through it all…you are still here…

Our Creative Forces had a genuinely good reason for compelling us not to judge.  Know that you only walk in your shoes…no one else’s.  Do not judge other people based on what you feel, think or experience.  You have no idea what they’ve been through or how they got where they are…Hind sight is 20/20…until you are in the moment, you truly do not know how you would react, so do not judge…

If your situation sucks, seize the moment and change it…and then grasp the knowledge that if it still sucks, you can change it again…and again and again and again…until you are in the best place possible for you…

Be thankful for what you do have…there are MANY who don’t have even a portion of what you do…

Here is the most important part…Learn to love EVERYONE…including yourself…

Believe it or not, you now have the tools rewire the way you think.  If negativity pops into your head, stop, realize it for what it is, turn it around and rethink it…It can be about yourself, another person, a particular choice, decision, situation, anything…whatever it is, turn it around into something positive.  Remember, whatever is going on, whatever your situation, whatever you are thinking, most all of it can be changed!

Becoming more positive makes us feel better…lifts us up…makes life more enjoyable.  The more you rethink things in positive ways, the more amazing things become.  Pretty soon, you can rethink things without even knowing you’re doing it…and, voila!  You have rewired for Positivity!  Congratulations!

New Years Introspection

I have often wondered why so many people love the ritual of making a New Years Resolution when they seldom, if ever, keep them.  Don’t worry, as I could never keep them, either, and stopped making them a long time ago.  This year, however, the idea of doing a sort of introspection instead of resolution popped into my mind.  Simply put, find out what does and doesn’t suit me, what I like or don’t, what I need to “make over” and what I don’t, and maybe this will help me make some changes.

Taking an inventory of what you do and don’t care for takes all sorts of honesty.  Why?  Because, in all honesty, we have become so settled in our way of thinking, we don’t pay attention to how we truly feel!   We are so comfortable with “the way things are,” we’d rather just continue down this path of fake tranquility, hoping that, at some point or the “right time,” things will change.

The truth of the matter is that we need to be proactive in our own lives.  If something doesn’t suit us, we need to do it differently.  If we don’t like something, we need to put the effort forth to change it.  If something needs to be made new, we need to be willing to make it over.  And yet, we aren’t…oh, and don’t worry, I am talking as much to myself as I am to anyone reading this.

There is much to like about “comfort” and much to fear about the unknown.   At least with comfort, we know what we are getting…even if it doesn’t make us happy.   With the unknown, we have no clue what might happen.  Could be good, or it could turn out bad…but if the comfortable is already unsatisfying, why wouldn’t we venture out into the unknown?  That new territory could hold such potential!  It could bring us everything we have ever desired…and maybe more…but only if we are willing to cross into the unfamiliar.

So, this year, instead of making a list of resolutions that have little chance of getting crossed off that list, why not do some personal exploration?  Observe what is going on within your own life and make an accounting of things that make you happy and things that don’t.  And, don’t rush the process…take your time.  Truthfully evaluate each thing you find.  Can you do something about it?  Can you change it?   Maybe there are other questions to consider…If we could really approach things candidly, what would we find out about what makes us happy and what doesn’t?  If we took the time to learn, would we possess the courage to pursue our happiness?  If the going got hard, would we be willing to stick it out?  If that proved to be intolerable, as well, would we be willing to make another venture forth into the unknown?  After all, that really IS all what matters.  Our own willingness to change our own lives…our willingness to go after what makes us truly happy…think about it!

Lessons: Enjoying Another’s Humiliation

It’s amazing how, if we are paying attention, we truly can learn lessons from anywhere.  I do not watch television very often, but a new roommate watches non stop.  Today before lunch, this person was watching America’s Funniest Home Videos.  I didn’t even know that show was still on! For whatever reason, I never really cared for it even when I did watch television.

Since the kitchen is near the living area, I could not only hear it, but see it, at times.  The lesson sprang to mind as I listened to my room mate laughing at someone’s video taped misfortune.  It escaped me for a bit, as I wasn’t really paying attention, then I realized, not all, but much of this show revolves around humiliating instances in someone else’s life.

While we shouldn’t take life SO seriously, should we really be laughing at someone else’s humiliation?  If you believe in Karma, what are you setting yourself up for?  While others who had joined us for lunch were getting a laugh at some of the things going on, it dawned on me…if that was happening to you, you would not think it so funny!  Sure, some of these people were making weird choices and some were even getting hurt, but an audience full of people, as well as a few people in this living room, thought this pain was funny.

Any of us who have experienced karma at work knows this cannot be a good thing.  And, any of us who believes you get what you put out there knows what is about to happen in some of these people’s lives…

Our lives are precious and people need encouragement.  Will this somewhat innocent form of eavesdropping cost us spiritually?  After all, it is meant as fun.  Or, have we turned into a society that gets our kicks from someone else’s misfortune?  AND, just how much of this type of behavior do we participate in in person?

But, you don’t have to believe in karma to realize you get what you put out.  All you have to realize is that if you are being loving and nurturing to others, well, isn’t that what Yahushua (Jesus) taught us to do?  Love our neighbor as ourselves?  If we truly love ourselves, we would not treat ourselves in a humiliating manner…so we wouldn’t treat our neighbor that way, either!

We are our Creator’s child, and as such, we have a responsibility to treat each other with respect, to be nurturing of each other’s spirit and to support each other in all we do.  Our goal is to live, be happy, and hopefully healthy, be productive, but it seems enjoying someone else’s misfortunes doesn’t fit in with that…

I say, be careful what you put out…it might come back to bite ya!

Growing Lessons

Hope your day is shaping up to be a rather nice one!  It’s hotter than usual here in the mid part of the country, as we are going on our 11th day of over 100 degree temps.  For some of you from the south, this is nothing new, for here it is…well…different.  And we have had no rain, at least where I am, for weeks.  Again, unusual.  BUT, the interesting thing is that as I was watering my plants this morning, I noticed something encouraging…New growth on all of my pepper plants!  Also, my tomato plants that I planted REALLY late are actually taking hold and growing nicely.  If I can keep them alive in this heat, they will grow and produce in the fall…so, again, nice!  My garden area does not get the proper sun, but I am thinking since the sun is so much hotter, that might not be such a bad thing!

Gardening, even in small ways, is such a learning opportunity!  And, from today, the lesson for my journey is this, even in the face of adversity, we can grow.  Even in the face of what appears to be a lull in our lives, we can still move forward.  The only thing holding us back is ourselves.  Truly, if the plants, in the face of such drought conditions, can continue to grow and even add new growth, then we, as brothers and sisters to the plants, can do this too!  (All life is all related, you know!)

It’s easy for me to imagine that the plants don’t over think things like we do.  It’s easy for me to see that, while things are rough for them now, they just say, “Yep it’s hot, but that won’t stop me from doing what I was put on this earth to do…grow!”  And we can learn from that!  Did we wake up this morning?  Yep!  SO, that gives us another day to work towards our goal…Yesterday is in the past.  Keep the lesson from yesterday’s decisions and live in the now, knowing you can change your way of thinking, the things you are doing and the influence with which you let others influence your life.  Your decisions can start over every single day, and if need be, find a different path that offers you different results, every day…

Don’t be a slave to old thoughts, past actions or past decisions.  Challenges are not obstacles unless you allow them to be… Wake up in the morning with a renewed sense of awareness…The knowledge that you CAN change your mind, do things differently and interact with life on this planet in different ways.  You are the key to YOUR future…If you have given up that power over you to someone else, well, take it back!  You truly are the one you’ve been waiting for and your world will open up for you when you embrace yourself.  So, what are you waiting for!?!

Blessings for your day, and weekend, next week, and always!  Much love and light to you and your family…May the blessings of Our Creator rain down on you until you have had your fill, and may it all happen for you again on every tomorrow!

Peace be with you

Happy Re-Birth Day!

Easter is a time of remembering what has been sacrificed, and many people tend to focus more on that.  But, it is also a time of re-birth.  Why not use more of our energy to concentrate on the new beginnings possible?  We can draw inspiration from the beautiful plants, butterflies and birds emerging all around us…heck, if they can take the pollution, abuse and neglect and still come back bigger and more beautiful, why can’t we?  It’s a matter of perspective, and hey, perspectives can change…ever looked at your yard from different sides?  It looks different and all you did is change your view!

Many people may not agree, but we can compare ourselves to the beautifully colored Easter Eggs.  Our lives have many ups, downs and bumps.  Sometimes we are cool and fragile, other times we are in hot water, waiting for someone to help us out!   Sometimes we tend to hide, and sometimes we even have cracks, but we seem to always emerge from that!  We now find ourselves at another “beginning” and need to take the opportunity to shine in all the brilliant colors available to us!  We need to try to think and be as positive as we can.  While we cannot ignore, totally, the negative, the negative isn’t going to take us anywhere good!  We need to put our thoughts on the positive and leave them there…we’ll be better off for it!

May the many blessings of our Mother/Father Creator wrap you in love, peace, beauty, joy, comfort and light, strengthening your resolve, today, and always!  Blessings on this wonderful time of Re-Birth…

Needs of the One…

Should the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one?  It is an interesting concept to ponder, and I am sure there are MANY conclusions…as many as there are people pondering it.  The thought always conjures up the scene from Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan with Kirk and Spock in the engine room on the Enterprise…”The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few…or the one.”

I would like to propose something…The needs of the many ARE the needs of the one.  We are all one in the eyes of our creator…All of us are different expressions of the One, so it stands to reason that our needs would all be different, experiencing different feelings, emotions and attitudes about everything for Our Creator.  And, we all have different experiences that we enjoy, and others we don’t.  As we have said before, too, the things I enjoy, you might not, and the things you enjoy, your friend might not.  Some people are naturally good at some things while others are naturally much better at others.  Some want to pursue things in which others of us have NO interest.  but that’s okay.  That is why there is such diversity and there is nothing wrong with diversity.  Besides, it would be SOOO boring if everyone wanted the same things…so there is room for MUCH diversity!

Simply put, in this world in which we live, there are endless options and combinations of things that can be done to satisfy everyone.  As long as we remember two things…The Golden Rule and what I consider the Rules of Life…Treat others as you want to be treated and don’t kill, steal, lie, cheat or take advantage of others.  Even that can be put into more simple terms…love, honor and respect each other!  If we remember that, we will do just fine, both as the many and as the one!

Remember, too, for all of us to be emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually sound, we do have individual needs for each of those categories…So, don’t begrudge people their individual needs, because as they grow in this world, they will add to the “needs of the many” while helping the “needs of the one,” which absolutely adds to the “needs” of the Ultimate One!

Love the “Doing”

The first words of a truly fantastic sentence, “I love the thought…” catch us all anticipating what it is we will “love.”  It’s magical!  We can ponder all kinds of lovely things…for example, we can love the thought of…

spending time with my children.
making a special dinner for friends.
staying in for dinner with my honey.
watching the stars.
relaxing in a hot bath.
sleeping late.

Or maybe something a little different…

planting a garden in spring.
a swim in the hottest part of Summer.
making snow angels in the yard.
bicycling, walking, running or dancing…something active…
taking pictures of those trees as they turn magnificent colors in the Fall.

Or maybe something extreme…

moving to a warmer/cooler climate.
running a marathon.
bicycling cross-country.
hiking the Grand Canyon.
skydiving.
backpacking through Europe.
taking a trip to Fiji…

I think you get the idea.  There are literally thousands of things you could “love the thought of,” but what about actually DOING them?  Yes, these seem like simple things, but how many times do we make excuses for not taking action on our simple, lovely thoughts?  Truth be told, when we make excuses, we are wasting our lives…there is SO much we could do…but to do it, we actually have to get out there and just DO it…(Reminds me of the old Nike slogan!).

What are we seeking to do when we “love the thought” of something?  Usually, we feel bogged down, in a rut, overworked, under-appreciated…drained…depressed.  I heard a wonderful teaching by Trevor Isley that pointed out when we are depressed, we are “low in spirit.”  So, again, what are we seeking when we “love the thought” of something?  To feed our spirit!  AND, if you can find something “fun,” you can rejuvenate!

Most of the things that would feed our spirit, thereby supporting our soul, don’t cost much, if anything…And, the things that you want to do that do cost money, well…start saving for it…Plan ahead for the big things, but learn to be spontaneous for the little things!

At the very least, don’t waste any more of your life just loving the thought of something…Make your journey spectacular!  Live your life!  Make time to love DOING the things that make you truly happy!

Imagination Run Amuck…

What is it that frightens you?  Keeps you from doing what you’d like to do?  Keeps you held hostage by the very fear of wondering, “what if something bad happens?”  Maybe you feel you will lose your job, relationship, friends, house…whatever?  Fear, of course, serves a purpose…We don’t jump off cliffs for fear of dying.  We don’t stick our hands on an open flame for fear we will get burned.  We don’t step in front of a car for fear we will be run over…But are these really “fears” or is it merely common sense?

What do you suppose we could accomplish if we all simply realized fear is the workings of our own imagination and if we learn to control our imagination, we control our fear?

Most of us fear something, and we really have no clue if what we fear will ever come to fruition…we just fear it.  Could what we fear be a possible consequence? What if we looked at fear as a “curse?” How could we rid ourselves of this “curse?”  To quote a line from one of my favorite movies, “It’s not the curse, it’s the power you give the curse.”

If we finally break free of our fear and do something anyway, we find out that the consequence we feared would happen is not the ONLY thing that COULD happen in that particular situation…in fact, you may find a very different outcome, one you did NOT imagine…but the only way to find out is to try.

Don’t worry, I fear a lot, myself, but to fear is not to live, because you cannot truly “live” while you fear. You can be comfortable in the knowledge that you have nothing to fear if you do not go forward with an idea or plan, but is “comfortable” REALLY living?

So, today, I will begin my journey into the unknown…I will take one of my long sought after dreams and begin fulfilling it, knowing that if I don’t even try, I will never know what could have been…And along the way, I might actually learn something about truly living!

Intentionally Positive…

Want to see some interesting news?  Take a look at this…Jellyfish are shutting down nuclear power plants!  This was sent to me by another friend and great spiritual soul like ourselves.  Read the story…While humankind has no regard for the
environment and its own lives, nature can, and apparently will, take care of it itself!  It is amazing!  Also, these photos of grains of sand remind me of the first stanza of a poem by William Blake,

To see the world in a grain of sand,
And Heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
and eternity in an hour…

Amazing what the world can do…As many of us who study alternative medicine know, some cultures view the body as a mini solar system.  I think we would be very foolish to think that if our own bodies can heal themselves, given the right energy, so, too, can our earth.  Does this mean we need to trash her?  Heavens no!!!  This world is amazing…even if some of the people on her are totally unaware!

What we do need to do is realize the potential in positive energy and concentrate all we can on it…Positivity can change our outlook and our attitude, our health…and even the world (population and the physical earth)!

Today, may we vow to always strive to look at the world, events and our own lives in the most positive light we can…and by doing so, maybe we can change the outlooks, attitudes, and health of the world!
